Kirsten originally took her first psychology class back in 2000 with the aim of learning “a bit more about human behaviour”.  Following the completion of her Masters in Clinical Psychology degree (University of Queensland) in 2006, she feels grateful for taking this first class as it has led to working with some incredible people and experiencing far more than she initially anticipated.

Kirsten has been fortunate enough to have practiced psychology in a range of settings in Australia (governmental and private), where she has worked with adults, children, adolescents, and families.  She has also had the privilege of volunteering her services overseas with rural schools in Colombia, as well as in China at a centre for street-children.

Kirsten practices under the frameworks of Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Mindfulness Therapy, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy.  She sees clients who present with a range of difficulties including: depressive/mood and anxiety-related difficulties, stress, parenting issues, child-behavioural problems, grief and loss, as well as adjustment/change difficulties.

She aims to provide clients with information and individually-tailored skills that may aid them in better managing the stressors and changes that arise in life.  Ensuring that clients feel confident in using these strategies that they learn from sessions and applying them to life outside the clinic is another major aim.  She feels privileged and finds great satisfaction in being able to see others take on these strategies and use them in their lives to bring about change.

Kirsten feels that it is important to continue expanding her knowledge of psychology and is actively engaged in ongoing professional development.
